Ludhiana, [Harminder Singh Kitty] – In response to the overwhelming demand from patients and their families, Christian Medical College (CMC) Ludhiana’s renowned diabetes support group initiative, “Diabetes ki Baat,” will now be held monthly. This support group, aimed at offering guidance and resources for managing diabetes, has been lauded for its informative sessions led by Dr. Aayush Gupta, a key expert in the field.
The session was introduced by Dr. Monika Sharma, the Head of the Department of Pediatrics at CMC Ludhiana, who emphasized the importance of continuous education for families managing diabetes and the impact of emotional well-being on overall health.
The monthly sessions, which focus on critical aspects of diabetes care, will continue to address various facets of insulin therapy, including the proper use of insulin pens and techniques for maintaining healthy injection sites. These topics are crucial for individuals managing diabetes, as accurate insulin administration is essential in maintaining optimal blood sugar levels and preventing complications such as lipohypertrophy and infection at injection sites.
In addition to diabetes management, Dr. Pallavi also led an insightful discussion on the emotional impact of a diabetes diagnosis on both children and their families. She provided valuable advice on how families can cope with the diagnosis, emphasizing the importance of mental health in managing chronic conditions. Dr. Pallavi discussed key indicators for identifying when a child may be showing signs of depression, which is common in children diagnosed with chronic illnesses like diabetes. Early detection of these signs, along with appropriate support, can help improve a child’s emotional well-being and their ability to manage the condition effectively.
Dr. Aayush Gupta, the primary point of contact for the program, has been instrumental in leading discussions and answering the numerous queries raised by attendees. His patient, detailed explanations have ensured that participants feel empowered and better equipped to manage their condition effectively.
The move to a monthly schedule aims to provide continuous education, build a supportive community, and keep patients up to date with the latest practices in diabetes care. With the increased frequency, “Diabetes ki Baat” hopes to foster an environment where people with diabetes and their families can learn, ask questions, and gain practical tips to enhance their quality of life.
