Honouring a legacy of healing and learning — Paediatrics at CMC Ludhiana continues to bridge tradition with innovation.
Punjabiheadline( HS KITTY) The 41st L.H. Lobo Memorial Oration was hosted by the Department of Paediatrics, Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana, on 11th October 2025, marking a milestone celebration of 60 years of Paediatric Education at the institution
The event featured Dr. Piyush Gupta, a renowned paediatrician and academic leader, as the Chief Orator, who delivered an enlightening oration titled “My Tryst with the Sunlight Vitamin”. His address highlighted the vital role of Vitamin D in child health, drawing from years of research and clinical insight.
Nearly 250 delegates, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, paediatricians from across Punjab, and faculty members from all five colleges of CMC Ludhiana, attended the distinguished event.
Dr. William Bhatti, Director, CMC Ludhiana, welcomed the gathering and congratulated the Department of Paediatrics for organizing such a remarkable academic and commemorative event. Mr. Maninderjit Singh, President of the Lobo Trust, shared the historical significance of the oration series, followed by Dr. N.K. Choudhary, Secretary of the Trust, who offered an inspiring glimpse into the life and contributions of Dr. L.H. Lobo.
To commemorate six decades of Paediatric excellence, a special felicitation ceremony honored former Heads of the Department —
Dr. Manorama Verma, Dr. Daljit Singh, Dr. Jugesh Chhatwal, Dr. Gurmeet Kaur, and Dr. Inderpreet Sohi — for their visionary leadership and lasting contributions to child health and medical education.
Following the oration, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled “Paediatric Perspectives – Bridging Advances and Practice” was conducted, focusing on critical topics such as Non-Communicable Diseases, Urinary Tract Infections, Intensive Care, Tropical Fevers, and the latest updates on vaccines. The session featured insightful talks by Dr. Jugesh Chhatwal, Dr. Inderpreet Sohi, Dr. Mehak Bansal, and Dr. Ankit Mangla.
Dr. Monika Sharma, Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Organising Chairperson of the event, emphasized the significance of continuing education and collaboration in paediatric care.
She expressed heartfelt gratitude to her predecessors for laying the foundation of one of the oldest and most respected Paediatric Departments in Punjab, inspiring generations of medical professionals to serve with compassion and excellence.
