CMC Ludhiana Marks 20th Annual Ophthalmic Quiz with a Strong Call for Eye Donation Awareness

Punjabi HeadLine  (HS KITTY)The Department of Ophthalmology, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, organised the 20th Annual Ophthalmic Quiz and awareness talks for doctors, nurses, and medical students on 8th September 2025, to mark the conclusion of the National Eye Donation Fortnight. The theme of the event was “Eye Donation: Facts & Figures.”

Dr. William Bhatti, Director, CMC & Hospital, applauded the efforts of the Ophthalmology Department for hosting academic sessions of this kind and for spreading awareness about eye donation. He also encouraged students and faculty to take the message of eye donation forward into the community.

“Opening Minds, Enlightening Lives – Knowledge for Today, Vision for Tomorrow.”

Dr. Jeyaraj D. Pandian, Principal, CMC, reiterated the importance of regular academic engagements and highlighted that the CMC Eye Bank functions 24×7 to serve those in need (Helpline: 98883-38849).

Marking this landmark occasion, the Chief Guest was Dr. Apjinder Kaur, Member of the Punjab Medical Council. The Guests of Honour were Mr. Kartar Singh, Director, and Mr. Jagbir Grewal, Administrator, Anand Isher Sr. Sec. Public School, Chhapar, Ludhiana.

Dr. Apjinder Kaur commended the initiative and especially praised the innovative “Mind Games” round, which challenged participants’ quick thinking and application of knowledge. Mr. Kartar Singh stressed the need for the medical fraternity to regularly organise such academic and awareness events, while Mr. Jagbir Grewal lauded the enthusiasm of the students, particularly during the final quiz rounds.

Out of 64 undergraduate MBBS teams, 5 teams qualified for the finals after the preliminary round. The finals were conducted by Dr. Nitin Batra, Dr. Reenu Thomas, and Dr. Samson Rajpal.

In a close contest, Dr. Gagan Goel (MBBS Batch of 2020) and Yashmit Dhingra (MBBS Batch of 2022) emerged as the Champions of the 20th Annual Quiz.

The event concluded with resounding appreciation from both faculty and students for its dual focus on academic excellence and social responsibility.
