“A Beating Heart, A Healing Clip — Hope Rekindled at CMC!”
Punjabi Head Line( HARMINDER SINGH KITTY) Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana scripts history in advanced cardiac interventions
On 19th June 2025, the department of cardiology performed an advanced intervention on a patient with a significantly leaking valve in the heart which hampered his daily routine activities. Dr Gurbhej Singh who received his extensive training from Europe for advanced cardiac interventions with the support of a multidisciplinary team decided to perform a procedure for treatment of the heart valve using a special clip called MyClip which was the first of its kind in the region.

The procedure which lasted around 2 hours was made a success through the efforts of Dr Gurbhej Singh, Dr Melchisedec Singh (Cardiac Anaesthetist), Dr Allen Joseph (Medical Superintendent & Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery), Dr John Livingston, Dr Karun Khanna and all team members.
This procedure called mitral valve clip implantation is performed at very few cardiac centres around the world. It involves bringing the leaflets close together and plastering with the help of a clip in a beating heart.
Post operatively, the patient was able to perform his day-to-day activities from the next day onwards. He was discharged on the 3rd day of procedure.
This historical day for the institute brings hope to many such patients with heart valve diseases.
