“One Donor, Many Lives — A Gift of Life Beyond Loss”
Ludhiana (Punjabi Headlines – Harminder Singh Kitty): In an extraordinary demonstration of compassion and medical excellence, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H) recently performed a series of life-saving organ transplants from a single donor, showcasing the power of organ donation in turning grief into hope.
A 54-year-old male patient from Ludhiana, known to have a history of hypertension, was admitted to the hospital following a severe brain hemorrhage. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he was later declared brain dead. In a courageous and noble act, the patient’s family gave consent to donate his organs, giving new life to multiple recipients.
👨⚕ Expert-Led Coordinated Medical Effort:
The complex retrieval and transplantation procedures were led by a team of highly skilled doctors, including:
Dr. P.L. Gautam, HOD, Critical Care Medicine
Dr. Gursagar Singh Sahota, Chief Liver Transplant Surgeon
Dr. Suneet Kathuria, HOD, Anesthesia
Dr. Gurvinder Kaur, HOD, Ophthalmology
The liver was successfully transplanted in-house into a 32-year-old patient, marking a milestone in life-saving surgery at DMC&H.
Both corneas were also utilized within the hospital, restoring vision to two patients and transforming their lives.
The kidneys were sent to another transplant center within Punjab through a green corridor, ensuring timely transplantation and saving two additional lives.
🕊 Honoring the Donor’s Legacy:
On this significant occasion, Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent, and Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist at Hero DMC Heart Institute, were present to honor and acknowledge the donor’s family.
In a moving gesture of respect, the hospital administration escorted the donor’s body with full honor back to his residence, recognizing the family’s selfless decision and the donor’s heroic legacy.
📣 DMC&H’s Message:
> “This act of donation reflects the highest form of humanity. Through one courageous decision, six lives were changed forever. We salute the spirit of the donor and the strength of his family.”
